The League of Gentlemen
“The League of Gentlemen” is a British comedy series that debuted on BBC Two in 1999. The show takes place in the fictional town of Royston Vasey, inspired by Bacup in Lancashire, Northern England. It explores the eccentric lives of numerous townsfolk, with most characters portrayed by three of the four writers—Mark Gatiss, Steve Pemberton, and Reece Shearsmith—who, along with Jeremy Dyson, established the League of Gentlemen comedy group in 1995. The series originally ran for three seasons from 1999 to 2002, followed by a film adaptation in 2005. In December 2017, a three-part mini-series was released to commemorate the troupe’s 20th anniversary.
