Phoenix Nights
“Peter Kay’s Phoenix Nights” is a British sitcom centered around The Phoenix Club, a working men’s club located in Farnworth, Greater Manchester. The series was penned by Neil Fitzmaurice, Peter Kay, and Dave Spikey, and produced by Goodnight Vienna Productions and Ovation Entertainments. It aired on Channel 4 in the UK, with all music composed by Toni Baker and Peter Kay, and additional contributions from Paddy McGuinness. The show ran for two series, first airing in 2001 and 2002.
The sitcom is a spin-off from the mockumentary series “That Peter Kay Thing” and subsequently inspired another spin-off, “Max and Paddy’s Road to Nowhere.” It garnered the People’s Choice Award at the British Comedy Awards in 2002 and received several other nominations. Peter Kay not only starred in multiple roles but also directed the second series. In a BBC Radio 1 interview in September 2006, Kay disclosed that a third series had been written, though the filming schedule remained uncertain. On May 8, 2007, Kay reiterated that another series was in the works.
However, in late 2009, Dave Spikey mentioned in interviews with The Sentinel and the Croydon Guardian that neither he nor co-writer Neil Fitzmaurice were aware of any plans to revive the series.
