A Real Vermeer

In the vibrant art scene of 1920s Amsterdam, the young and gifted Han van Meegeren stands out as a nonconformist. His dedication to painting in the manner of his heroes, Rembrandt and Vermeer, leads critics to dismiss his work as outdated and label him a mere imitator. To challenge their views, he creates a counterfeit Vermeer and successfully passes it off as genuine. Rather than exposing the deception and risking the art world’s ridicule, he continues to profit from his numerous forgeries. However, this path of deceit soon entangles him in a complex web of lies, causing his life to spiral out of control. The situation takes a dramatic turn when high-ranking Nazi official Hermann Göring arrives at his doorstep, seeking a Vermeer for his personal collection.
