Veteran undercover officer Jim Raynor, played by Jason Patric, teams up with his less experienced partner, Kristen Cates, portrayed by Jennifer Jason Leigh, for a challenging mission. Despite her inexperience, Raynor believes Cates has the grit needed for their next operation: infiltrating the elusive drug kingpin Gaines, played by Gregg Allman. As they delve deeper into their undercover roles, their professional relationship evolves into a romantic one. However, they both succumb to drug addiction, adding another layer of complexity to their mission. To successfully capture Gaines, they must first confront and overcome their own dependencies.
