“Svensson, Svensson” is a Swedish sitcom that has been adapted into both a feature film and a stage play. The show originally aired for two seasons, each with 12 episodes, during the fall of 1994 and 1996, and has been rerun many times since. In 2007, the series was brought back for a third season.
This sitcom is one of the most popular in Swedish television history. During its second season, each episode attracted over 2.5 million viewers, impressive numbers given Sweden’s population of about 8.8 million at the time. The episode with the highest viewership aired on November 17, 1996, drawing in 3,395,000 viewers.
The storyline follows the Svensson family residing in the Vivalla neighborhood of Örebro. The family includes Gustav, the father who is a mailman, Lena, the mother who works at a bank, their teenage daughter Lina, and their son Max.
In the show’s revival, Gustav has retired from his postal job, while Lena is employed by the local government. Max has taken a job at the bank, and Lina is now married to a conductor named John, who has a daughter, Greta, joining the family.
